Kausor Amin-Ali

Experienced Principal & UAE School Leader

Kausor Amin-Ali leads by example when it comes to EdTech or TfL as he calls it (Technology for Learning).  Even as a School Leader, he would not expect from any colleague what he could not do himself when it comes to technology for learning. Having been a principal in Dubai for more than three years, he readily commits himself to the implementation and extended use of Google Suite for Education, (now renamed as Google Workspace) as a Certified Google for Education Trainer himself. By leading an all-through campus, he has the advantage and insight of technology in both the Primary and Secondary school setting.

Kausor began his career in teaching upon obtaining his PGCE in 2003 at the University of Cambridge.  His final assignment focused on the use of ICT in Mathematics learning and ever since, he has been enthusiastically  involved with e-learning for more than 15 years. He was one of the first to engage with remote access, anytime and anywhere learning with the VLE initiatives in England in the early 2000s,  and went on to become a Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Master. In 2006, he was an award-winner, recognised as an outstanding teacher and pioneer for e-learning awarded by the City of Sheffield Local Education Authority. He went on to build unique Staff CPD provision using technology, recognised as Outstanding by Ofsted in 2009 and also led e-learning provision for a cluster of schools. In 2013, he led initiatives in using bespoke blended learning platforms to increase attainment and progress with disadvantaged and vulnerable students in the north of England.

Upon qualifying as a Headteacher (NPQH) in 2015, he relocated to the UAE.  His drive for paperless provision saw a significant reduction in the use of paper and in the process enhanced his drive for innovation, sustainability and wellbeing. His foresight of a tech savvy school infrastructure, with an eye on the #futureschool enabled a very successful delivery of distance learning during the recent Covid-19 ‘lockdown’ as acknowledged by the Dubai Schools Inspection Bureau. This has enabled an innovative hybrid model of onsite and online learning and parallel provision since reopening this September after the pandemic closure in summer.

His presentation on ‘Beyond Google Classroom’ has been showcased on a few occasions both regionally and internationally with European Schoolnet where he outlines the journey beginning  with Gmail, becoming a Google for Education Reference School and leading the way to innovate with Google Apps.

He is contributing to the the dialogue for the future of assessment and #futureschool provision with articles published in TES.  He has coined the phrase TfL (Technology for Learning) and believes strongly that schools should adapt technology to enhance their provision rather than adapt their provision to enhance technology.
